One of the most exciting aspects of the off-season is planning the following season’s schedule. This year has been no exception, but it’s undergone change after change after change. It seems that once I find something suitable, something comes up and derails the plan. Sure, the schedule is always tentative, but the process has been frustrating and has taken the wind out of my sail just a little bit.
Luckily, finding a promising schedule restores that wind. However, that means whatever schedule I mailed to potential sponsors – who I can’t really contact – will be incorrect. That’s far from the end of the world, but what I’ve put together has little resemblance to the former.
The main prohibitive issue I’m encountering is cost, particularly from WTC branded events. Yes, triathlon is an expensive sport, but they seem to go above and beyond. Year after year, they’re asking for more and more money and they get it. Great business model… wish I had come up with it…
Since I’ve already spoken ill of the WTC twice this month, I am choosing not to support any of their events in 2011. Hopefully I’ll uphold that promise – I essentially let Muddy dictate my race schedule.
While I was hoping to post my schedule soon, I won’t be – it’s been too volatile. I have my general idea of where I want to go, but I’m playing it close to the chest for the time being. Yay, secrets.
